What is QR Code?

A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data in a square matrix of modules. QR codes are commonly used for URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials, contact details (vCard), calendar events, payment links, tickets, and printed materials.

How does the QR Code tool work?

The generator builds a standards-compliant payload for the selected content type (for example a WIFI: string or a vCard), encodes it into a module matrix with the chosen error correction level, and renders that matrix locally with your colors, module shape, logo, and label. QR readers detect the finder patterns in the corners, recover the encoded data, and use error correction to read the code even when a logo or damage covers part of it. Higher error correction (H) tolerates up to 30% damage but produces a denser code.

When should you use QR Code?

What are the limitations of QR Code?

  • Low contrast or inverted colors can make a QR code difficult or impossible to scan — watch the contrast indicator
  • Logos hide modules; keep them under 25% of the code and use error correction level H
  • Large amounts of content create denser QR codes that need more physical space
  • Printed modules smaller than about 0.4 mm may fail on older cameras or from a distance
  • A QR code stores data but does not encrypt or validate that data
  • Dots and rounded modules are widely supported but a few legacy scanners prefer plain squares
